Name: Andrew Leong
Position: VP Finance
Year: 4th year
Why did you join CMP?
Joining the CMP, I wanted to gain experience with budgeting and expense tracking, as well as the experience of being a part of a unique educational program. As a private tutor, I found a joy in providing help with academics and I personally found a good fit with the executives and the organization.
Which course have you enjoyed the most at UBC?
I just finished Cost Accounting with Sandra Chamberlain and I thoroughly enjoyed the course materials and instruction. I worked with regression, linear programming, decision making, and the course allowed me to apply my accounting background to cases! (which I enjoyed…I know I’m weird)
What is your favourite food?
Pho for sure! All day everyday!
What do you do outside of class?
Personally, I like to keep physically active; I enjoy watching and playing hockey, American football, and playing the piano.
Favourite teams: Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Seahawks
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A chef / restaurateur! I watched a lot of Food Network as a child. I’ve always dreamed about having my own little shack, maybe selling burgers or fried chicken.
What advice would you give to first year students?
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking a less than full course load! I found taking fewer courses in my university career and then the remaining remaining courses in the summer to be beneficial! It allowed me to get a better study/ life balance with volunteering and joining clubs!
